In the Woods

Hello!

Hope this finds everyone well today; we're finally getting a yucky cold front coming through and the snow is a falling!  There's sure something about the colder weather that makes you want to make snowy cards...I think its the only kind I've made over the last while!

I needed a masculine birthday card and thought I'd pull out my Woodland embossing folder a few more times before it retires in January.  I'm bummed about this one - its such a versatile folder I thought for sure it would be a keeper!  But, alas it was not meant to be so I'll use it as much as I can until then!

I've seen quite a few cards that use this technique of stamping on the folder before running it through the Big Shot to get a hidden like image.  I haven't seen any done with animals though so I thought I'd give it a try.  I LOVE how it turned out!!  I added Dazzling Diamonds glitter along the base of the card to look like snow but no matter how I positioned the card or the camera, the light the day I took this just wouldn't pick up the sparkle.  You'll just have to use your imagination that its really there ;)

To achieve the background swipe Night of Navy and Soft Suede ink across the embossing folder then stamp the elk in Early Espresso ink directly onto the embossing folder, near ground level.  Insert a piece of Whisper White card stock into the folder and run through the Big Shot.  Viola!  An elk hidden behind the trees.  Color in the elk in with an Aqua Painter, Soft Suede, and Early Espresso ink.  To make the trees pop a little more use the edge of a Soft Suede ink pad to lightly apply ink to the raised portions. To finish everything off add a few flecks of snow with a White Gel Pen and Dazzling Diamond glitter along the base of the trees as well as in the branches.

I hope you've enjoyed this one!  If you give this technique a try, let me know (or even better, email me a pic!)  I love hearing from you :)

I'll be back with another winter-y card share in the next couple days, as well as my Holiday Newsletter set for Friday.  If you love to count down to the Holiday's, your going to want to make this one so be sure to subscribe!

Have a wonderful snowy day!

Your card is spectacular! I thought about making one like this, so I really appreciate you sharing how you made this card. It's much more elegant in a masculine way than what I planned on doing.
Thank you,
Ann

What a darling card. I love how it looks like a real piece of art. You should frame one like this since you needed a masculine card.

This may sound dumb, but how did you get the stamp to not stamp by the trees? so it looks like he is behind them? (sorry, newbie)

Love your beautiful card - do you make Youtube videos when you create these gorgeous things? I find blogs hard to follow and much prefer watching the card come to life. Fabulous work. TFS.
