Chalkboard Marker Magic Technique

You may remember a few months back I posted a card titled Blendabilities on Black featuring the World of Dreams stamp set.  I was kindly asked by Dina over at Splitcoaststampers to create a tutorial along with a video for the technique.  I of course said YES!  I've done a few tutorials in the past and love working with this amazing group of people!

We've changed the name of the technique to Chalkboard Marker Magic so don't be confused!  We simply wanted it to be a more generic term because the technique will work with ANY alcohol based markers you might have.

If you'd like to follow along and learn a little more about the technique; as well as post your own creations to the site, click HERE to be redirected.  The video tutorial will also be posted there or, if your subscribed to my YouTube channel, you can find it there as well.

Have a great day!  I have another technique to share with you before the end of the week so get ready to break out your markers!

Congrats Grad!

Welcome to the weekend folks!

We have a couple of crazy busy days this weekend and I'm just hoping we can pull it all off!  Tonight we are invited to a High School Graduation.  Does anyone else do the quick figure calculation in their heads when invited to an event like this?  You know the one where you think to yourself "geesh its only been a few years since I was sitting up there"...only to realize its been 17 - SEVENTEEN!! Ugh, let me just get comfy in my rocking chair with my afghan over my lap before I continue on with this post...

Anyhow, back to the task at hand; I needed a Graduation card.  Because it's for a boy I didn't want to get too fancy but at the same time I didn't want it to be boring and plain.  Enter in the Star Framelit dies and Champagne Glimmer Paper.  I think it adds just the right touch of sparkle but gets right to the point (haha get it? Point...of a star...can I emphasize here what a long week this has been??)

Ok, I'm off before the humor gets any worse!  Be sure to check back in next week because I have a couple of techniques I'll be sharing (and one includes a video).  If you aren't subscribed so you receive current updates as soon as I post them be sure to enter your email in the subscription box in the right hand side bar!

Have a great weekend!!

Hidden Die Cut Technique

Hello!

Wow!  The green of Spring has finally arrived and with it begins a hectic Spring/Summer schedule! And while I love the busyness of life it sure leaves little to be desired in the way of crafting.  I relish in the days like today when both boys are at school, the house is tidy, and the yard work is as complete as it can be for the moment because it finally gives me the opportunity to blog and get a little card making done!

The little time I have had to work on cards I can't help but to keep reaching for these beautiful Butterfly Dies.  I was one of the unfortunate who didn't order them right away and had to patiently await their arrival...now I feel like I have to make up for lost time with them (anyone else with me on this one?)

I've seen many variations of cards already done with this die that I wanted to try but this Hidden Die Technique first.  I love that its so simple (perfect for demonstrating at card classes) and also that it gave me the chance to play around a little bit with layering.  As I mentioned the technique is quite simple:
  • Stamp images onto Whisper White Card Stock (Washi Tape is also great for this technique because its thin enough for the dies to cut through)
  • center the die over the image and run through the Big Shot
  • cut a second butterfly out of a coordinating or contrasting Card Stock or DSP
  • layer the negative portion of the Whisper White stamped card stock over another piece of colored card stock
  • glue the center most portion of the butterflies back into place over the negative portion of the die cut; layering so the colored butterfly is beneath the Whisper White stamped butterfly
  • give the wings added dimension by gently folding them upwards
  • when the card/butterfly lays flat it should "disappear" back into the stamped background

I hope your busy playing in your craft room today too!  I get my box of goodies from the new catalog today - I think it might be a late night just so I get a chance to play!  I'll be back with more card shares soon :)

***Oh!  I should mention that I've worked out the kinks in the Tutorial Store link so if you'd like to purchase any it should work just fine now.  I've had a few people saying that clicking on the Add to Cart button is a Pinterest link - it doesn't happen to everyone but if it does to you just click to the right of the "P" (not on it) and it will still let you purchase.  It's not ideal but I'm working on correcting it!***

Hello!
I've been notified of a glitch within my tutorial store - it appears the link won't work to access the store itself. I'm working on fixing this as quickly as possible but until then if you'd like to make a purchase please notify me via email and we can make other arrangements.   Thanks so much for your support and patience!
Have a great day :)

Potted Succulents

Hello!

I've recently taken to fascinating over Fairy Gardens.  I have a few around the house and am in the process of setting up my annual outdoor one (I'll post pics when I get it all done).  While looking for inspiration for my gardens via Pinterst a common thing that keeps popping up is Succulents.  In the past I'd always overlooked this type plant because I thought they were rather boring, but boy oh boy was I wrong!

Succulents come in a huge array of shapes and colors and are sure to attract attention to any display...which got me thinking (dangerous place my brain LOL) could I figure out how to make them in paper form?  I studied many photos and the above picture is what I managed to come up with.

This pot of succulents contains 10 "varieties", each uniquely different and colorful to stand out on their own.  And because Mother's Day is fast approaching this weekend I made both my mom and Ryan's mom one each.  I'm so pleased with the way they turned out that I just want to keep on making them!  In fact there's an empty vase sitting on my desk that's been begging to be filled as we speak... ;)

If you would like to create this colorful display for yourself or a loved one you can purchase the tutorial by clicking on the TUTORIAL STORE tab at the top of this page and scrolling to the very bottom of that page.

The tutorial as mentioned includes 10 varieties of succulents and full photo instructions to assemble each and every one with a few tips along the way.  I hope you'll give it a try and let me know what you think; and as always I'd love for you to email me your completed project photos!!
