Ornamental Pine Christmas Card

Good Day!

I was recently asked to create a set of Christmas invitations.  My normal process is to create a couple of samples for choosing purposes; this card came in as the runner up.  I love the simplicity of this Ornamental Pine set! However, even as I say that these six stamps are so very versatile!  I've seen so many beautiful cards created with this set and each one is unique - a definite addition to the "must have" list in my books!

Supplies:

Stamp sets: Ornamental Pines, Endless Wishes
Card Stock: Whisper White
Ink: Always Artichoke, Early Espresso, Marina Mist, Lost Lagoon, Night of Navy
Accessories: White Stampin' Chalk Marker, Dazzling Diamonds, 2 Way Glue Pen, Sponges, Post it Note (for masking), 3/16" Corner Punch

The first step in creating a card like this is to remember to always work from the background to the foreground.  Cut a standard size card piece of Whisper White Card stock and round the corners with the corner punch.  Tear a post it note and place near the bottom of the card stock (this will create your first/top snowbank).  Sponge a small amount of Marina Mist just above the post it, then follow with a small amount of Night of Navy, blending well.

Move the post it down, changing the angle slightly so the snowbanks won't look the same.  Follow the same process of sponging, this time with Marina Mist and Lost Lagoon but be sure to NOT sponge all the way to the edge of the first snowbank (you want some white space left).  Move the post it again and create the third snowbank the same way as the second.

Sponge Night of Navy in the upper left corner and blend the color across the top of the card as well as down the left side.  Stamp the pine boughs in Always Artichoke; once in the center then one to both the left and upper right of the central bough.  Stamp three pine cones into the center of the main bough with Early Espresso ink.  Highlight the open areas with a White Chalk marker and as a finishing touch add a small amount of Dazzling Diamonds throughout the bough and pine cones for a little sparkle.  Add a sentiment from the Endless Wishes set to the bottom of the card and your all done!

I hope this quick step by step was helpful!  I'll be back at the end of the week with another post so be sure to check back, or click on the subscribe button to have any updates automatically emailed to you.

Until next time...

Witch Broom Glow Sticks

Happy Monday!

I'm one of "those" Mom's that's always on the hunt for treats that don't involve candy; especially for the boys to give to school friends.  I found these cute little witch broom glow sticks on Pinterest and quickly jumped on the idea!  The cost was minimal, they are super easy to create so the boys were able to help make them, and best of all they are perfect to strap on a wrist for safer trick or treating!

Supplies:

Stamp sets: Tee-Hee-Hee
Card Stock: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Basic Black
Accessories: Early Espresso Baker's Twine, Sticky Strip, 1/16" Circle Punch, Fringe Scissors, Small Glow Stick

Instructions:

Begin with a piece of Basic Black card stock approximately 2" x 2".  Cut strips with the fringe scissors; leaving approximately 1/4" at the top of the cardstock.  Apply Sticky Strip to the upper 1/4"; remove backing and begin wrapping tightly around one end of the glow stick.  "Feather" the ends of the fringe out slightly to make the broom appear wider.

To create the tag cut a small strip of Pumpkin Pie card stock, stamp one of the sayings from the Tee-Hee-Hee set and punch a 1/16" hole at one end.  Thread a small length of Early Espresso Baker's Twine through the hole and tie to the glow stick just above the base of the broom.

Hope this has inspired you to look beyond the same ole candy treat!  And because they're so quick to make you still have lots of time to get creating before the big night (tee-hee-hee)!

Until next time...

Four Feathers Faux Stamped Leather

Hello!

Today I'm sharing a video on how to re-create the look of stamped leather.  It's a super quick and easy to execute technique and is perfect for those always hard to come up with masculine cards.  In the sample above I used the Four Feathers set and matching Framelits from the Holiday Catalog.  I love the look of the faux leather with the sparkle of the Glimmer papers!

Four Feathers Supplies:

Stamp Sets: Four Feathers, Good Greetings (Hostess Set)
Card Stock: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Dazzling Diamonds & Champagne Glimmer Paper
Ink: Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Lost Lagoon
Big Shot: Feathers Framelits, Window Frame Framelits
Accessories: Foam Mat, Stylus Tool, Linen Thread, Hole Punch, Piercing Tool

For my second sample I went all out with the masculine theme - I think it will be perfect for my Brother-in-Law's birthday.  I began by stamping the Moose in Chocolate Chip ink then creating a mask from a sticky note and covering the original image.  I was then able to stamp the tree line behind the Moose along with the spruce trees along either side.  The remainder of the card was created using the same technique that I show within the video.

Walk in the Wild Stamped Leather

Stamp sets: Walk in the Wild, Lovely as a Tree, Wetlands
Card Stock: Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke, Soft Suede, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Always Artichoke
Big Shot: Woodgrain embossing folder
Accessories: Large Oval punch, Early Espresso Baker's Twine, Pumpkin Pie marker, Soft Suede marker, Foam Mat, Stylus Tool, Antique Brads

Click below to watch the step by step video; I hope you enjoy it!

Until next time...

Wintertime Gift Box & Greeting Card

Happy Monday Everyone!

I was lucky enough this past weekend to attend one of the Fall Conference Sessions held in Regina! It was so nice to finally put faces to names and create with a very talented group of ladies!  I love how crafting can bring people together!!

While I was there we made a couple of Make and Takes, a greeting card and a gift box.  Now I must say I completely overlooked the Gift Box Punch Board in the Holiday Catalogue simply because I thought "I have the Envelope Punch Board already" but boy was I wrong!  This is an AMAZING tool - this box came together in literally minutes!  It creates boxes up to 4" x 4" which is a perfect size for goody giving any time of the year.

Card Supplies:
Stamp Set: Wintertime
Card Stock: Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Under the Tree Specialty DSP
Ink: Early Espresso
Accessories: Natural & Old Olive Two-Tone Trim, Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue

Box Supplies:
Stamp Set: Letterpress Winter, Wintertime
Card Stock: Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso
Punches: Scalloped Tag Topper, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border
Big Shot: Woodgrain Embossing Folder, Window Frame Framelits, Chalk Talk Framelits
Accessories: Gift Box Punch Board, Old Olive Blendabilities, Natural & Old Olive Two-Tone Trim, Cherry Cobbler 1" Sheer Linen Ribbon, Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, Sticky Strip, Hole Punch

Both boys are at school today so I'm off to get my creative juices flowing!  I think attending the Conference and seeing all the beautiful projects/cards on display was just what I needed to get me motivated and inspired again :)

Have a wonderful day - I'll see you all back here in a day or two!

On Target - Hunting/Camouflage Birthday Party!

Hello There!

It's been forever since I blogged and I must say I've missed you!  I've been busy doing the "mom" thing but I thought I'd drop in while I had a chance and share some of the projects from my youngest son's birthday party that we celebrated at the beginning of the month.

Both my boys love the outdoors and anything to do with hunting, animals, camouflage, orange gear, or anything remotely related to the above, so I thought it might be neat to center a party around that theme.  And of course any great party always starts out with a cool invitation giving party guests a clue of what is to come.  The deer silhouette from the Remembering Christmas set was retired with last years Holiday Catalogue but I just couldn't resist using it here - its perfect!

Supplies:

Stamp sets: Remembering Christmas, Gorgeous Grunge, Make a Wish
Card Stock: Very Vanilla, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Pear Pizazz, Mossy Meadow, Baked Brown Sugar, Chocolate Chip, Early Espresso
Accessories: Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, My Digital Studio, Stamp-a-ma-jig

I began by creating a target in My Digital Studio then I printed it out on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock measuring 4" x 5 1/4".  I then alternately stamped images from the Gorgeous Grunge set on the entire piece of card stock using the following ink colors: Pear Pizazz, Mossy Meadow, Baked Brown Sugar, and Chocolate Chip.  I then lined up the deer silhouette into the center of the target with my Stamp-a-ma-jig and stamped with Early Espresso ink.  I glued the completed image to a Pumpkin Pie mat measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" (same size as a card front so it would fit perfectly into an envelope). The sentiment from the Make a Wish Set was stamped in Early Espresso ink onto Pumpkin Pie card stock and adhered to the front of the invite.

On the reverse side of the invite I simply added all the party info into my Photoshop program, printed it onto computer paper, and adhered to the card stock with Multi-Purpose glue.

I also made a few labels for the snack table.  Each were created in Photoshop, printed out and adhered to Pumpkin Pie card stock folded tent card style.

The kids loved this one!  It was placed beside a bowl of chocolate covered raisins ;)

And of course a hunting birthday party would not be complete without the cake!  The boys have tons of hunting related toys that we've picked up at Cabela's over the last few years so I used them as inspiration to decorate the cake.  I think it may be my favorite cake that I've made so far :)

And just in case your wondering what the cake looked like on the inside...why CAMO of course!!  I found the coolest tutorial online and when we cut into the cake it actually looked like camouflage - too neat!!  Here's a photo of the cakes pre-baked:

And what they looked like after being baked; a lot of extra work but the boys were pretty excited which makes it all worth while!

If you are interested in a tutorial on how to recreate the "camo" effect on the invite, please let me know in the comments below.  I'm working on a birthday card where I'd like to incorporate this technique so it would be easy to do if anyone is interested.

I'll be back soon with a new technique I found that I can't wait to share with you so be sure to check back for that!  Until next time...
