Night Lights

After becoming a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator over a year ago I've finally decided to take the plunge into the waters of blogging!  I decided that my first post should be something meaningful to me - a little something special I can always look back on to keep me motivated.

It didn't take me long to decide that the following card needed to be that 'something special'.  This past March my Grandmother lost her battle with lung cancer and my neice was born, both on the same day.  I could have never imagined you could feel  such elation and heartbreak at the same time.  That night the Northern Lights were incredible - we took it as a sign that Grandma was with us and watching over my neice, appropriately named Sasha Aurora.

To create the Northern Lights I used Stamping Sponges on Whisper White cardstock.  I began sponging with my lightest colors first, working from the bottom of the cardstock upwards, ending with my darkest colors to help create the shadows and depth in the sky.  I finished off the sky by adding stars with a white gel pen.  I then sponged the grassline in Basic Black ink and added the stamped image from the stamp set Forever Young.  The font was created in My Digital Studio.

TIP: I didn't use a "pouncing" motion like you normally might with a sponge technique.  I found by moving the sponge in a circular motion over my cardstock it gave a much softer, more realistic apperance to the sky.

Supplies:

Stamps: Forever Young
Cardstock: Whisper White, Basic Black, Night of Navy, Certainly Celery, Wisteria Wonder
Ink: (in order of use; all Classic Ink Pads)  Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Lucky Limenade, Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry, Not Quite Navy, Basic Black
Accessories: Eyelet border punch, white gel pen, stamping sponges, snail adhesive, font from MDS

Thanks so much for looking!

This is so beautiful! I've only seen the northern lights a couple times where I'm at (Kansas USA) but this looks just as good as the pictures I've seen! Absolutely stunning! And such a great way to keep some of those memories of your Grandmother close to you! Love your work!
