Heart Sunset

Hi All!

Today I'm sharing the Anniversary card I made my parents - they just celebrated 35 years!! I would say that's no small feat nowadays!  I hope they enjoy another 35 together!!

I can honestly say this design started off with just the Tea Lace Paper Doily - weird starting point, right?  I'd been staring at them wondering what the heck to do with them then it hit me - fancy metal park bench!  What do you think?

Supplies:

Stamp sets: none
Cardstock: Costal Cabana, Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Basic Black
Ink: So Saffron, Crisp Cantaloupe, Cajun Craze, Basic Black
Accessories: Tea Lace Paper Doily, Owl punch, Chevron embossing folder, Early Espresso Baker's Twine, Mini Brads (retired), Sponges, Brayer, Tombow liquid adhesive, post it notes

To create the heart sunset I cut a heart from a post it note to create the mask OR you could cut a heart using the Hearts Collection framelits.  Position this on a piece of Whisper White cardstock then brayer So Saffron over then entire piece of cardstock.  Next brayer Crisp Cantaloupe over the top 2/3 of the cardstock, followed by Cajun Craze on the upper 1/3.  Remove the mask and sponge So Saffron inside the heart.  Using Basic Black sponge around the outer edges of the cardstock.

Using Basic Black ink, sponge a Tea Lace paper doily cut in half.  You will need to sponge on several coats to fully cover.  Set aside to dry if necessary before gluing to the finished piece.  To create the couple, punch two bodies of the Owl punch from Basic Black cardstock.  Trim the "ears" of the owls from one of the bodies.  The couples bodies were cut freehand using Basic Black cardstock and paper snips.  Assemble the heads onto the bodies using Tombow glue before adhering to the sunset.  Layer the Tea Lace doily on top of the couple with a little Tombow glue.

I finished off this card by layering the image onto Calypso Coral cardstock, layered on a Coastal Cabana base embossed with the Chevron embossing folder.  Complete by adding a brad to each corner and some Early Espresso baker's twine wrapped around the bottom and tied into a bow.

Duck Hunter

Happy Monday!

Whoa its been way too long since my last post!  Summer is such a busy time and my boys enjoy being outside so much that I hardly get any "spare" time to work on cards!  Today I'm sharing the card I made for my husband for Father's Day.

I may have mentioned a time or two how much he loves the show Duck Dynasty - this is a loosely based representation of one of the guys and a cute little ducky :)  I'll do my best to try to remember what punches I used but I made it a couple of weeks ago and frankly can't remember!  There's a good reason I should always have a pen and paper beside me when I work...

Supplies:

Cardstock: Whisper White, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Midnight Muse, Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie, Blushing Bride, Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake
Ink: Basic Black, Blushing Bride, Midnight Muse, Old Olive, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Crushed Curry
Punches: Owl, Small Oval, Large Oval, Modern Label, Heart to Heart (retired)
Accessories: Little Leaves Sizzlit, Early Espresso marker, White gel pen, sponges, Tombow liquid glue

This card also gave me another opportunity to use my Camouflage Technique; the perfect "man" technique!

Camouflage Technique & Tent Box Video

Hello!

Today I have a great masculine technique to share with you just in time for Father's Day - Camouflage!  I did a picture tutorial last year with this technique on a Fishing Vest Card and it proved quite popular so I thought I'd do a video showcasing it this time around on the cutest little tent!  It can be used as a gift card holder or a little treat holder and used for any guy occasion you can think of...endless possibilities!!  I wish I would have thought of this last year for my son's Campfire Birthday party - I think it would have been a hit!  And even though I'm calling it a masculine technique - don't let that stop you from creating for all the girl camo lover's out there - just switch the green shades I used to pink shades and your all set!  If you'd like to create your own little tent, I've designed a template that fits onto an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock.  The link for the template will be at the bottom of this post.

Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Old Olive
Ink: Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Old Olive
Accessories: Early Espresso marker, white gel pen, Sticky Strip, toothpick

Watching Over

Hello

I'm sharing one of the hardest kinds of cards today; Sympathy.  A very close friend lost her Brother-In-Law this past weekend in a tragic accident; leaving behind a wonderful wife and three little boys.  I didn't know him really well, but we had socialized together on many occasions.  His humor and witty nature was infectious - I was always guaranteed a good laugh when he was around!  This card is the one I made for his wife and sons.  I don't really know where the idea came from - I was looking through my stamp sets not really seeing anything that seemed appropriate.  Then the birds on the branches from the Serene Silhouettes set jumped out at me - four little birds, one for each family member left to cherish him sitting in the light of heaven.

This is the second card I made, for my friend and her husband.  If I were to title it on its own I'd call it A New Dawn, representing the beginning of a new day.  There will always a come a tomorrow, and even those who have left this world will still be there, just in a different form.

Hello!

Today I'd like to share the card projects I've created for this month's Virtual Club!  I decided to focus on creating landscapes, something I love to do!  They take a little extra time and some tender loving care to create but the results are so satisfying when your done!  Each image is based off of a main light source and then built outward with shade and stamped images for a truly realistic effect.

I've done things a little differently this month; instead of offering one large tutorial I decided to break this month down into three separate tutorials: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.  This way you can choose the level that most suits you and work at your own pace without feeling overwhelmed.  You'll learn the basic skills of sponging and masking in the first tutorial then build to more advanced techniques in the second and third tutorials.

I'm in a happy place when I create these scenes - for me this isn't just card making, its a little labor of love.  Creating images like these are small works of art that anyone would appreciate receiving!  I love that they are so versatile too - great for any occasion and will work for male or female, depending on what colors you choose.
