Hidden Die Cut Technique

Hello!

Wow!  The green of Spring has finally arrived and with it begins a hectic Spring/Summer schedule! And while I love the busyness of life it sure leaves little to be desired in the way of crafting.  I relish in the days like today when both boys are at school, the house is tidy, and the yard work is as complete as it can be for the moment because it finally gives me the opportunity to blog and get a little card making done!

The little time I have had to work on cards I can't help but to keep reaching for these beautiful Butterfly Dies.  I was one of the unfortunate who didn't order them right away and had to patiently await their arrival...now I feel like I have to make up for lost time with them (anyone else with me on this one?)

I've seen many variations of cards already done with this die that I wanted to try but this Hidden Die Technique first.  I love that its so simple (perfect for demonstrating at card classes) and also that it gave me the chance to play around a little bit with layering.  As I mentioned the technique is quite simple:
  • Stamp images onto Whisper White Card Stock (Washi Tape is also great for this technique because its thin enough for the dies to cut through)
  • center the die over the image and run through the Big Shot
  • cut a second butterfly out of a coordinating or contrasting Card Stock or DSP
  • layer the negative portion of the Whisper White stamped card stock over another piece of colored card stock
  • glue the center most portion of the butterflies back into place over the negative portion of the die cut; layering so the colored butterfly is beneath the Whisper White stamped butterfly
  • give the wings added dimension by gently folding them upwards
  • when the card/butterfly lays flat it should "disappear" back into the stamped background

I hope your busy playing in your craft room today too!  I get my box of goodies from the new catalog today - I think it might be a late night just so I get a chance to play!  I'll be back with more card shares soon :)

***Oh!  I should mention that I've worked out the kinks in the Tutorial Store link so if you'd like to purchase any it should work just fine now.  I've had a few people saying that clicking on the Add to Cart button is a Pinterest link - it doesn't happen to everyone but if it does to you just click to the right of the "P" (not on it) and it will still let you purchase.  It's not ideal but I'm working on correcting it!***

This is beautiful! I've done similar with the smaller butterfly, but not the big one. I'll have to give this a try!

Thank you for sharing!
